This month you have been and will be hearing much about the question, what makes us happy? From the scriptures, Philippians 4: 4 – 7, we hear that we should always be glad, that we should not be anxious about anything but bring our requests to God, always with a grateful heart. In Philippians 4: 11 – 13, the Apostle Paul expresses the message that no matter what situation we find ourselves in, we can be content because we place our values and our meaning of life in God.
I have found this is sometimes easier said than done. In the homily this Sunday, I will give several examples of the challenges of changing our perspectives and rising above circumstances, then offer a Wesleyan perspective on suffering.
I will conclude with some thoughts about the joy that we can experience on World Communion Sunday. Please see Rev. John’s blurb in this e blast with regard to this special celebration.
Hope to see you on Sunday,
