Dear SDUMC Family,
I hope that you have had a joy-filled and blessed summer and I’m looking forward to all the ministries kicking off in the coming weeks: Choirs, Bells, Youth Group, Children’s Ministries, Small Groups, Light Your World Sunday, “The World Famous” UMW Rummage Sale, World Communion Sunday, First Day of Preschool, Trunk or Treat and that is just September and October! I’m sure like you it is a bit tiring when you read the list, but we also know this isn’t done by one or two people – it truly takes the church community!
In the midst of all of this, I hope that you will find some time to join a short-term small group this fall. When you first think about joining something, it may feel like it’s just one more thing to add to the list. However, I have found that being part of a small group has been a powerful component to my spiritual growth. Throughout the Bible, we see that the Christian life is one of community, not isolation. Groups are a means for us to build friendships, be a part of a caring community, and grow spiritually through the study and application of the Bible.
This fall we will use the Bible, a guide book, Happy? by Rev. Matt Miofsky, prayer, fellowship and times of sharing with others to help us understand the gift of Joy that God has for each of us. Here’s a link to check out the many opportunities to join a group Small Group Opportunities Link
I look forward to an exciting Sunday of worship with you at 8, 9 or 10:30. We will also welcome Alex Bridges, our new Director of Youth and Family Ministries throughout the morning.
Have a blessed weekend and see you Sunday!
Grace and Peace, John
PS For all families of youth (3rd through 12th grades) I look forward to the “Kickball Rematch” 🙂 with you all at Noon on Sunday!
